Being an influencer isn’t as easy as firing off a few snarky Tweets.

Will Witt learned that after giving his very first speech for a crowd of cynical teens.

Conservative influencer Will Witt

Witt, the congenial face behind many PragerU videos, misread the group in question. The assembled teens leaned to the left, but he blames himself for his performance.

“A lot of the mistakes I made were in not doing my diligent research [ahead of time],” Witt says of his influencer-in-training days.

Now, he knows to exhaustively prepare not just for speeches but for fighting the Culture Wars in general.

He’s come a long way, baby.

Will boasts a massive online flock, from north of 400K followers on Instagram to nearly 112K on Twitter. His YouTube presence is even larger, given his prolific output with PragerU.

He regularly teams with fellow influencer Amala Ekpunobi to explore the biggest issues of the day for PragerU. Think lockdowns, abortion, media bias and more, all told from Witt’s youthful perspective backed by serious research.

The Colorado native joined with Ekpunobi recently for a “Ride Along with the LAPD” vlog. It’s the kind of material you’d never see in the mainstream press.

A quick peek explains why.

Witt and Ekpunobi show the hard work, dedication and community outreach that comes with being an L.A. cop.

The context is clear. Black Lives Matters may want to “defund the police,” but the people in crime-ridden communities disagree. Take the teen boxer featured in the video, who only wants a legitimate safe space where she can train without fear of bullets ripping through her home.

“These guys are more than just police officers. They’re community leaders,” Witt says. “They’re going into places that no one else wants to go.”

“Many came from South Central,” Witt adds. “That’s their home. Black cops. Hispanic cops … they’re not going in there to hurt the people.”

Will didn’t follow the conventional career path to his current online status. He attended the University of Colorado Boulder for two years but dropped out after being bombarded by progressive indoctrination.

He signed on with a few pro-freedom nonprofits after that experience before joining PragerU.

Witt’s journey from wide-eyed conservative to first-class influencer separated him from the establishment Right. While others published books excoriating the Left, Witt focused on what he dubs “tangible tools and persuasion tactics” to make a difference.

He points to recent events, like the battle over the Mississippi abortion law, as signs of progress.

“The culture is starting to change. People are waking up … I’m glad to be a part of that,” says author of “How to Win Friends and Influence Enemies.”

The “Ride-Along” video offers a prime example of Witt’s philosophy in action. Seeing a teen boxer share her poignant story is far more influential than a series of dry statistics on a given subject.

Data does matter, of course. So does storytelling 101.

And Witt is still learning on the job. He just started his first blog to write longer than what Twitter typically allows. He’s also working on a documentary about the shrinking middle class and a new book project.

Being an influencer today means absorbing plenty of huzzahs along with more than a few hateful screeds. Witt avoids the latter as much as possible.

“I know there are a great many people out there who want the best for me and PragerU, and a lot of evil people who would love nothing more than to see me dead or fail,” he says.

Witt has some tough love for anyone who wants to join the Culture War battles by his side.

“You are not going to be the next Ben Shapiro,” he says of The Daily Wire co-founder and podcast superstar. Figures like Shapiro know a great deal about a crush of subjects. Replicating that skill set, plus Shapiro’s sizable intellect, is darn near impossible.

Instead, he recommends drilling down into your personal story and expertise.

“Find a niche for yourself – abortion in your state, immigration near where you live,” he says. “When you find you’re the expert on that one thing, people will come to you.”

I believe that there are three steps in the gift-giving process: finding the gift, giving the gift, and using the gift. While finding the gift may seem like the most important step, I’ve always been more concerned about how the item (that I carefully selected, by the way) exists in the person’s life after they receive it. And I’m not shy about texts or calls that begin with, “Hey! Have you worn the dress I got you yet?” To avoid answers like “Not yet,” or, “I’m saving it for an upcoming party,” I’ve started to focus on gifting people with wardrobe staples versus statement pieces. Not only will these pieces live in their closets for a long time, but they’ll serve as the versatile (and stylish) pieces that they wear on repeat.

This holiday season, I’m prepared to shop for key closet staples from Otrium, an end-of-season digital shopping platform offering members access to more than 300 global brands at up to 75% off. This retailer believes in a future where all clothing is worn, so it works with designer brands to list excess end-of-season inventory in order to keep that clothing from ending up in landfills. Otrium’s mission is one I can definitely get behind, and the designer finds are an added bonus. I’m talking chic slip dresses (I’m thinking about buying the one below for myself), trench coats, pullover sweaters, and more. Ready for a sneak peek at some of the gifts my friends and family will unwrap this year? They’re waiting for you below.

Kim Zolciak from the Real Housewives of Atlanta is selling her wigs online, MTO News has confirmed. And that’s causing many people to believe that the former reality star may have hit a cash crunch.

MTO News learned that Kim is selling four of her “favorite” wigs on her online store. And she hopes that the sale of her hair will bring in a few thousand dollars.

And we have receipts too. Here’s a screenshot of Kim’s 4 wigs for sale. By the length, and the luxuriousness of the wigs, it’s clear that they are pretty new.

But those prices . . . . SHEESH.

Kim had been a fixture at Bravo, but now she’s currently out of work and so is her husband, former NFL player Kroy Biermann.

In 2008, she appeared as one of the original housewives on the reality television series The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Zolciak-Biermann left The Real Housewives of Atlanta in 2012 during the fifth season of the series, and returned as a “friend of the housewives” for the show’s tenth season in 2017-18.

In 2012, she received her own spin-off show titled Don’t Be Tardy for the Wedding, which focused on the preparation of her wedding to football player Kroy Biermann. The series was subsequently renewed for a second season with a shortened title, Don’t Be Tardy, and aired for eight seasons until the final episode on December 29, 2020.

Bravo decided not to pick up any further shows with Kim or her family.

There’s a real messy situation developing on social media, MTO News has learned – involving former Bad Girls Club star Winter and billionaire Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Winter recently released a new memoir, where she described all the ups and downs of her life. But one passage in particular, has peaked people’s interest and has them talking.

In that passage, Winter talks about dating a man named “Xavier’ from the highly affluent “Barclays” family.

Now before we go any further, let’s break a few things down. MTO News has confirmed that Winter dated Diddy’s son Justin Combs off-and-on for many years. And based on how she described the family and what’s known about her dating history, many are speculating that the “Barclays” family is the Combs family.

Now back to the memoir.

In it, Winter claims to have gotten pregnant by “Xavier” and then says he and his father intimidated her into getting an abortion.

She later went on IG Live explaining why she couldn’t use the real names in her memoir. Watch:

‘Encounter’ Takes Big Risks, and Most Pay Off

Mainstream movies often lack originality and chutzpah, two elements “Encounter” has in spades.

The Amazon original, part sci-fi, part character study, feels so fresh it’s easy to look past its storytelling miscues.

Plus, star Riz Ahmed is so good, so in control of the material, you’ll follow him almost anywhere. Just like his character’s kids do, despite the dangers afoot.

The “Rogue One” actor plays Malik, a U.S. Military veteran rushing to pick up his two young boys for what he calls a road trip. He hasn’t seen them in two years, but this isn’t a typical reunion. Malik has stumbled upon an alien plot in the “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” mold, turning everyday citizens into mind-numbed husks.

It’s his mission to take his sons to a military-style bunker where they’ll be safe while humanity fights back. And, along the way, father and sons will catch up on precious lost time.

That sounds far-fetched, doesn’t it? “Encounter” challenges us throughout its taut running time, switching gears often along the way.

RELATED: Top Science Fiction Fathers

The bond between Malik and his boys – Jay (Lucian-River Chauhan) and Bobby (Aditya Geddada) – is far and away the film’s selling point. The lads look up to Daddy, who in turn does everything possible to make up for two lost years of fatherly love.

The life lessons start small, but soon the boys are realizing they’ll need to grow up fast. It’s paternal love that’s raw and relatable, and Ahmed captures every nuance in heart-breaking fashion.

Even the actor’s clipped cadence feels like he spent years in the military. It’s strong and distinct, and it goes a long way to convincing his sons, and us, that he’s on the right path.

It’s a shame Octavia Spencer’s role, which can’t be described fully without a crush of spoilers, gets so little screen time. The same goes for Malik’s ex-wife (Janina Gavankar), a wispy presence at best.

“Encounter” boasts otherworldly trappings, but at its heart its about fathers, sons and pain that’s not easily subdued. And yet some of the storytelling choices feel either desperate or strained. Malik’s mission also ebbs and flows in a way that doesn’t make psychological sense.

Director/co-writer Michael Pearce gathers so many grace notes early on it helps us process what happens in the second and third acts. It doesn’t help that a “big reveal” happens earlier than expected. Audiences need to know the information at some point, but the film’s dramatic tension droops after we learn the film’s big picture.

Pearce coaxes sublime performances out of young Chauhan and Geddada. They’ve both splendid, and each is tasked with material that ranges from gut-wrenching to joyful.

“Encounter” needed more discipline, more tough love in the script-writing phase. The finished product, though, is provocative enough to recommend. We haven’t seen a story quite like this before.

HiT or Miss: “Encounter” cagily blends sci-fi elements with richer themes of fatherhood and despair.

Washington DC Rapper Does The UNTHINKABLE At Dead Opps Grave! (This Trend Must Stop)

There’s a new trend in hip hop, where rappers get clout by “disrespecting” a fallen enemy. The trend began in Chicago, where rappers would make rap songs, where they mentioned their opps.

The trend was ratcheted up in Jacksonville – where the rappers not only mentioned their opps dying – but they bragged about killing them.

Now the trend of disrespecting the dead opps is taking things to a whole other level. MTO News has learned that a DC rapper claims to have done the unthinkable at his opps grave.

Beyonce’s Daughters Star In Commercial

According to social media reports, the rapper brought his dead opps girlfriend to the site – and then had relations with her on camera. In the image, which was seen by MTO News, the rapper has the dead opps alleged babys mother bent over the tombstone.

And the rapper appears to be hitting it from the back, as the alleged babys moms holds onto her fallen rapper’s tombstone.

This trend is really getting out of control.

The ’90s Denim Trend Fashion Girls Are Wearing With Everything

Denim trends always seem to go in and out at a rapid-fire pace, but is it just us, or does it feel like recently they’ve been moving even more quickly than usual? From more extreme takes like colored denim and ultra baggy fits to the return of the low-rise jeans, the rotation of trends flittering through seems to be greater than ever before. In the midst of this denim mania, fashion people have also been wearing outfits featuring another nostalgic denim trend—bootcut jeans.

We last saw the bootcut jeans having their true heyday during the ’90s, amid the low-rise jean phase, but they’ve gotten an update since the iconic decade. From chic cropped iterations of the trend to slightly more streamlined silhouettes, the latest takes on the look are proving that the old-school style is here to stay. Not convinced yet? Scroll down to see how our favorite It girls are incorporating the staple this season.

Take the 90’s aesthetic all the way by adding a pair of oval sunglasses.

With the Ugg revival in full swing, now’s the time to style them with your favorite pair of bootcut jeans. Add in some cool accessories to finish it off.

For longer hems, heels are more than just an aesthetic choice: it creates the illusion of longer legs plus it saves you from a hem job.

Everything looks better with a dramatic coat—including bootcut jeans.

Colorful crochet sweaters have been everywhere this year, and it gives these cropped jeans a psychedelic spin.

Yes, Canadian tuxedos will always be cool.

Here’s an interesting take on denim on denim: a dark wash denim shirt with white bootcut jeans is unexpected, yet welcomed.

In my head, this is the perfect winter outfit, and no one can tell me otherwise. All of the elements are minimalistic, effortless, and likely easy to recreate with the staples you already own.

Admittedly I was dubious about the return of distressed denim, but outfits like this have convinced me otherwise. Pairing it with loafers gives this look a subtle downtown edge.

This look marries the bootcut and loose denim trend that’s been raging on over the past few months.

If you’re like me, you’re going for ultra-high waist silhouettes like this.

Truly peak Parisienne.

Give your blue jeans a break and reach for a black pair. For a visual contrast that will capture everyone’s attention, wear them with a tan trench coat.

During last night’s Verzuz, a fight broke out between Three 6 Mafia and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

While Bone performed “Buddah Lovers,” Gangsta Boo and DJ Paul slow danced. Bizzy Bone became upset and threw a mic at the group.

“Before we even get started, you ugly muthaf*ckers not gon’ be mocking me when I’m on this muthaf*cking stage. Like straight the f*ck up,” said Bizzy.

It was when Juicy J told him “N*gga, suck my dick,” that he threw the mic. The groups then began to fight and had to be pulled apart. “Bizzy Bone, you a hater. You must not have taken your pills,” Gangsta Boo yells.

The Verzuz was puased for 15 mins. Both groups returned to the stage. At first Bizzy was not on the stage but he finally came back with an apology. “I want to apologize to everybody out there, on both sides. I’m not trying to f*ck this [Verzuz] sh*t up. Pardon me,” he said.

Some say Bizzy wanted smoke ahead of the battle:

Head-to-Toe Winter Basics Perfect for Cozying Up and Wearing Out

Maybe it’s because I’m a California girl through and through, but I find winter dressing to be slightly overwhelming. I get claustrophobic in too many layers and the chunkiest of sweaters, and don’t even get me started on the endless process of peeling on and off of clothes when leaving and entering buildings. To keep the winter blues at bay, I like to keep a capsule wardrobe filled with warm basics I’ll welcome wearing over and over again. This year, that looks like comfortable and stylish bottoms, classic sweaters, and trendy knit sets. My favorite options are waiting for you below.

All the cuteness of layering without the bunching.

The deep zip and oversize collar make this pullover stand out from the rest.

All the blazers, puffers, and half-zip sweaters in your closet will be fighting to be worn with these joggers.

You can wear this cardigan with the matching knit pants below, your favorite jeans, and wide-leg trousers.

Have you ever seen a pair of knit pants so chic?

Like every good set, these pieces will look just as good together as they will when worn as separates.

The number of long-sleeve tops you could pair with this vest is endless.

Honestly, the only pair of denim you need this winter.

At this point in the year, we know which coat styles are going to dominate the winter season. I’m seeing some rollovers from last year: Shackets and leather blazers are as present and oversize as ever, surprising absolutely no one. I’m definitely going to update those classics in my wardrobe, but I also have my eyes on some completely new looks, too. Trench coats in leather are at the top of my wish list. There are endless sherpa and fleece options to create all the soft teddy vibes I need to get through cold winter days. And last but not least, puffers and quilted jackets abound in too many hues and lengths to choose from. I shopped the best of each style and included them for you below, so get scrolling.

I’m not afraid to say this is the best shacket I’ve ever laid my eyes on since the trend came on the scene.

One cannot get through the winter without some sherpa in their wardrobe, especially if they’ve looked at any recent fashion forecasts.

I love the slightly tailored look of this blazer without it being too fitted. Plus, those double-breasted buttons are so cute.

This teddy-bear coat will look so good from your jogger and leggings athleisure looks all the way to your festive holiday frocks.

Puffers may be trending this season, but this jacket will never go out of style.

I actually cannot wait for this to arrive at my doorstep.

The collar and hemline on this quilted number are so classy.

This is a coat I know I’ll reach for on the daily—for cozy moments indoors and casual days outside in the cold.

Wait, This H&M Collection Is the Coolest Thing I’ve Seen All Season

As an editor, I typically have early access to a lot of cool industry news. A celebrity beauty line launching? It’s on my radar. A friends-and-family sale? Yep, I’ve heard. But when this hot info landed in my inbox, well, let’s just say it trumped the lot. H&M is releasing an ultra-chic (and I mean ultra-chic), high fashion–inspired collection of bright dresses, sparkly accessories, bold jackets, and more just in time for the holiday season.

Yes, the pieces are insanely stunning, but that’s not even the best part. This Innovation Circular Design Story collection is also H&M’s latest step in its sustainability initiative. The garments are made of innovative materials (like cellulosic fiber produced from sustainably sourced wood pulp, recycled polyester made from waste bottles at high risk of polluting oceans, and other environmentally friendly fabrics), and each piece was crafted in a thoughtful way to increase wearability for seasons to come. Think gown-like matching sets that can be styled in various ways and oversize blazers that can double as mini dresses. The collection launches (and no doubt will sell out) on December 16, but naturally, we have the sneak preview. Here’s every hot item to bookmark so you’re ready to shop the second the line drops.

I’ll start with my favorite piece in the collection. This dress is actual perfection. The polka dots, the tiers, the corset bodice, the tulle (made with recycled polyester, I might add), the—okay, you get the point.

Some people like their puffer jackets neutral, but I’m looking for a statement. This version is exactly the right fit.

The cut-out trend is still everything. Wear this solo with knee-high boots, or throw it on top of some skinny leather pants. You can’t lose.

I can already see fashion people lining up for these.

Remember when I mentioned the matching-set gown that can be worn in numerous ways? This is it. I’ll be maximizing the CPW of this pink bralette by pairing it with wide-leg jeans, heels, and a blazer.

Pink pants are always a yes.

And don’t forget about the matching top if you’re looking for a little drama.

I’ve already seen celebs wearing this dress on social media.

Ahem, a moment for these sustainably made faux-leather boots. It’s the sole detail for me. It really makes these look luxe.

Cold-weather chic with a cuff detail for some extra polish.

We can’t get enough of vests over here. And this one’s made with an organic silk blend.

My mom calls me dramatic because I love a good glove moment.

Add a fun pair of stockings to anyof these dresses for a more wintry vibe. They will not disappoint.

This hat is neutral enough to be worn with anything in your closet but will also make a big statement.

My co-worker Eliza put me onto the sporty sunglass trend, and now I just really can’t get enough.

This choker will bring that added level of glam to any look.

Who says your undergarments can’t be just as fun as your outerwear?

This has a detachable collar and cuffs that are embellished with beads and rhinestones made from recycled plastic and some recycled glass. What more could you want?

I truly love ruching to add some extra dimension to a mini. This stunner will turn heads at any party you attend.

I’ll always have a thing for gold jewelry.

Hollywood Goes Gaga for Blacklist, Again, Ignores Blacklist 2.0

Aaron Sorkin could have told plenty of stories tied to “I Love Lucy.”

The beloved sitcom reigned supreme over American culture in the 1950s. The sitcom’s huge ratings – the episode “Lucy Goes to the Hospital” drew 44 million viewers at a time when many homes didn’t have TV sets – are beyond a modern TV executive’s wildest dreams.

Yet Sorkin centered “Being the Ricardos” around a curious part of the show’s legacy. The film, debuting in theaters Dec. 10 followed by a Dec. 21 release on Amazon Prime, details how the show’s creators battled accusations star Lucille Ball was a Communist.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=results?search_query=being+the+ricardos+trailer

Yes, once again Hollywood is anchoring a story around the Blacklist era. And it’s easy to see why the industry is obsessed with the topic.

Sen. Joe McCarthy’s war to root out Communist sympathizers hit Hollywood … hard. Famed screenwriter Dalton Trumbo saw his career capsize as a result of the witch hunt, a story told not once but twice by Hollywood filmmakers. And he wasn’t alone.

It’s just a small way McCarthy’s reign impacted Hollywood. And, since that chapter of history wrapped, we’ve seen many films tied directly to it, beyond the dueling Trumbo projects.

  • Guilty By Suspicion
  • The Front
  • The Majestic
  • The Way We Were
  • Good Night, And Good Luck
  • Chaplin
  • Yoo Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg
  • Waldo Salt: A Screenwriter’s Journey
  • Hollywood on Trial

That list isn’t complete, though. “Being the Ricardos” is the latest film obsessed with the Blacklist, and it has some serious company next year.

Michael Shannon will play the title character in “McCarthy,” a 2022 biopic of the hard-charging U.S. senator behind the Blacklist era.

Hollywood has devoted so much time and creative energy to retelling the Blacklist era and its greater meaning. Again, that’s understandable given how artists should be able to believe any political philosophy they believe in without fear of reprisal.

Yet it stands in stark contrast to the new, unofficial Blacklist that permeates Hollywood today. The updated model lacks government muscle, no doubt, and no one is threatened with jail time for their views. Trumbo served nearly a year in prison.

The intent is still clear. Conservative artists are punished for their thought crimes.

Yes, a few artists are able to survive, and even thrive, despite their right-leaning views. Jon Voight of “Ray Donovan” fame rushes to mind, as does Kelsey Grammar, Tim Allen and Nick Searcy.

They are the exceptions, and they often aren’t as overtly political as their progressive peers. They’re also older stars with the kind of resumes and reputations to shield them from naysayers.

Many artists stay quiet about their Republican views for fear of losing work. Antonio Sabato, Jr. said as much, one reason he’s working on his own film studio to support independent artists. This reporter has spoken to several artists over the years who keep their conservative views private for fear of professional retaliation.

Searcy explored how Hollywood embraced the new Blacklist on a recent edition of “Red Pilled America.”

The Blacklist 2.0 is why Disney fired “Mandalorian” actress Gina Carano but keeps far-Left co-star Pedro Pascal on its payroll.

It’s possible the upcoming “McCarthy” will address the modern era, slyly telling audiences that Hollywood’s new version is just as vile as the old.

Or not.

The film’s director, Vaclav Marhoul, seems more interested in attacking President Donald Trump via his film than addressing the new Blacklist.

…this story is absolutely universal and totally timeless. It’s about those kinds of people, those who, because of their egos, can stoke fear, can divide society and can undermine democracy. These people are very dangerous. And I realized this when I watched the news in January and saw Donald Trump and his call for the Capitol attack. But it’s not just about Trump. Over the past decade in Europe and all over the world, there are so many Joe McCarthys. For instance in Brazil it’s Bolsonaro, in England, it’s Johnson. It’s about populism.

I’m a Size 10—See How I Re-Created These 7 Celeb Looks

If you’re not on fashion TikTok yet, consider this your sign to start scrolling. The style side of the app has quickly become my go-to resource for outfit ideas and I’ve racked up the screenshots to show for it. I could go on and on about some of the best style moments on TikTok right now (and I have) but today I need to bring your attention to one creator, in particular, whose outfit videos I can’t stop watching.

Laura Hoden, otherwise known as her handle @imlauranotlauren on the app, has gone viral for her series “Celeb style on a size 10” where she recreates memorable celebrity street style moments with pieces in her own closet. The concept of DIY-ing a celeb outfit is hardly novel, but I was immediately impressed with the level of accuracy that Hoden’s outfits achieve—she nails the overall silhouette, from the color scheme to how each piece fits—and while an exact recreation of any A-list ‘fit can easily put my bank account into overdraft, Hoden manages to do so with affordable favorites like H&M and Zara.

“I wanted to prove a point that size has nothing to do with having style,” she explained when I asked her about what inspired this series in the first place. “You don’t need the celebrity body (or budget!) to recreate these looks.” As a firm believer that style should be accessible to everyone, I couldn’t agree more. She continued, “I have seen a lot of discourse on social media of women feeling like they couldn’t dress a certain way because they weren’t a smaller size—and that hurts to see. I have lived my entire adult life between a size 10 to a size 16 and have never let my body stop me from having confidence in what I wear.”

Celebrity street style outfits are, of course, notoriously tricky (see pelvic cutoutsultra low-rise hems, and see-through fabrics) but Hoden has an eye for the ones that she can recreate with the pieces that are already sitting in her own closet, rather than outfits that rely on shopping hyper-specific trends. Outfits from the likes of Hailey Bieber, Elsa Hosk, and Emily Ratajkowski feature regularly on her channel as they tend to fit her casual, minimal, and menswear-inspired style the most.

Ahead, see the original celebrity inspiration along with Hoden’s DIY version and, of course, shop the pieces you’d need to recreate each look for yourself.

On Hoden: Zara pants; Gap shirt; Nike T-shirt. “I learned that the correct proportions really are key with this look. A more dramatically oversized white button-down like Kendall Jenner’s would’ve knocked this one out of the park for me.”

On Hoden: Vintage Armani blazer; Levi’s, jeans; Zara boots. “I had nearly identical items for this whole look, but when I left for the day I made a personal tweak by swapping the refined turtleneck for a relaxed graphic tee, less equestrian, more casual Princess Di.”

On Hoden: H&M ribbed pants, bra, and blazer; Zara heels. “Hailey Bieber is my top source for inspiration since we both seem to prioritize comfort in our day-to-day looks. But that addition of a blazer and heels suddenly makes a lounge set look very polished.”

On Elsa Hosk: Khaite sweater

On Hoden: Calvin Klein bralette and boxer; Agolde jeans; Zara cardigan; New Balance 550 sneakers. “I think I can confidently say I will not be walking out of my apartment with boxers showing any time soon. I commend anyone who can pull this styling off though! Other than that, you can never go wrong with an oversized sweater and relaxed denim in my opinion.”

On Ratajkowski: The Row blazer; Inamorata bralette; Khaite pants; Giuseppe Zanotti blazer; Hayward bag; Poppy Lissiman sunglasses

On Hoden: H&M blazer; Zara bra; BY FAR bag; Zara heels. “Personally I think this might be my least favorite, really not my style at all looking back on it. If I switched out for a sneaker I’d personally like it more. I also think Emily’s works so much better with the proportions of the below-the-knee crops.”

On Hoden: H&M Blazer; Agolde jeans; Ugg Tazz Mules. “This one is a 10/10 for me. All my favorite staples are featured—an oversized blazer, ribbed tank, and relaxed denim. Plus, the resurgence of UGGs styled with elevated pieces (thank you Elsa for the inspo), rather than leggings and a hoodie like back in my high school days is the cherry on top.”

On Bieber: Nina Ricci blazer; Are You Am I corset; Maison Margiela pants; BY FAR bag; Tabitha Simmons heels

On Hoden: H&M blazer; Skims bodysuit; Agolde jeans. “I was missing the patterned blazer and slightly more contrasting tones here to make it a more exciting look. Overall the silhouette was a match, but the tones fell a little flat for me.”

Ariana Grande’s shocking ability to mimic music’s greatest talents—including Céline Dion and Whitney Houston—isn’t the only thing that the “Positions” singer has impressed us with lately. Her looks, too, have been particularly awe-inspiring since she signed on to be a judge for The Voice a few months back. Grande’s latest getup for the NBC series, though, might just be her best yet—and that’s saying something after she wore the OG Versace minidress from 13 Going on 30 back in November.

On Wednesday, Grande posted a slideshow on Instagram that displayed her look from Tuesday night’s episode. For the reveal of this season’s semifinalists, the newest coach on the show (with the help of her longtime stylist Mimi Cuttrell) chose to wear one of our favorite risqué trends of the year: an oversize blazer worn as a dress, which she paired with sheer tights, a leather neck scarf, and the sky-high platforms that everyone is talking about in 2021. Her heels, which Grande somehow managed to navigate the set in with ease, are by Versace. They’re also a go-to for the singer, who’s worn the style, named after Medusa, on a number of occasions, including during an appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden this summer

While her exact pair will cost you—that is, if you can get your hands on the ultra-popular and often sold-out style—more and more designers are hopping on-board the platform heel trend, making it easier than ever to mimic Grande’s look. Keep scrolling to see her Medusas in action and shop the trend.

On Ariana Grande: Versace Medusa Satin Platform Pumps ($1425); Uncuffed Leather neck tie

These will go with anything in your wardrobe.

A perfect winter wardrobe addition.

*Becomes five inches taller.*

This color is too fun not to get in on.

The holidays are calling…

This price is simply too good to miss.

Shiny and new.

Prayers go out to the Chicago rapper Montana of 300. MTO News confirmed that the rapper is currently in the intensive care unit suffering from a severe bout of Covid-19.

According to reports, the 32 year old rapper is currently fighting for his life, and has been diagnosed with pneumonia.

It’s a sad story, but possibly a preventable one. Just last month, the rapper went on IG, and told fans that he’ll “never” get the Covid vaccine. Here’s his post:

The rapper, singer and songwriter from Peoria, Illinois. His debut studio album, Fire in the Church, was released on May 20, 2016. He is best known for his rap style, incorporating trap, R&B, and drill beats, while also making remixes to hit songs that, like his originals, often include religious subtext.

On February 18, 2020 Montana would release his EP mixtape titled “A Cold Day In Hell”.

Montana planned to end his solo career with his final album titled “Rap God” which was set to be released in May 20, 2020 but was postponed due the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yesterday the City Of Memphis laid to rest one of it’s most prominent and famous citizens, rapper Young Dolph. And the City sent him off in style – like only Memphis could.

MTO News learned that Dolph was buried in a $200,000 reinforced plexiglass casket, with solid gold accents. And inside the coffin, along with the fallen rapper, was $50,000 in cash.

It really was a site to behold. Fortunately a few guests of the private funeral snapped photos of Dolph as he lay in the funeral home.

Rest in peace, King 🤴

We warn you, the images may be disturbing. Look:

Dolph was one of the most polar rappers in the history of Memphis. In 2016, he released his debut studio album, King of Memphis, which peaked at number 49 on the Billboard 200 chart.

He was featured on O.T. Genasis’s hit single “Cut It”, which peaked at number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. Young Dolph’s seventh album, Rich Slave, was released in 2020 and became his highest-charting project, debuting at number four on the Billboard 200. On November 17, 2021, he was murdered in Memphis, Tennessee.

Stars of Married at First Sight, the top Lifetime TV series,  Zack Freeman started secretly dating Bao Huong Hoang, and it got a lot of attention – after MTO News broke news of their relationship before the end of season 13 of MAFS.

You’ll remember that Zack broke up with his Black wife, Michaela, on the reality television show. As MTO News originally reported, Zack is now allegedly “through” with Black women.

The show finally let the cat out of the bag on the Where Are They Now? episode. And Lifetime planned on doing a follow ups show on the couple.

Well that show just got a WHOOOLE lot more interesting.

MTO News has learned that a woman has forward claiming that she was cheating on Bao with Zack. And the side chick is spilling all kinds of tea, and receipts.

The side chick, who is a Latina wrote this:

I had no idea he was dating anyone.

He told me he hadn’t dated since his marriage ended, and he knew I didn’t watch the show. I ended up finding out about Bao the other day, and asked him if he was dating someone and he told me he wasn’t.

I messaged Bao via Instagram, and told her everything, and sent her screenshots and proof of everything she asked for. He played the both of us. He is a master manipulator, and tries to play the victim in every situation.

He is not a good guy, he just puts on a good act.

She also provided text messages, which she claims came from Zack:

Then the side chick messaged Bao on IG, to snitch on Zack some more. After Doing the Asian reality star, the side chick convinced Bao to jump on a FaceTime, sh=o she could tell her everything.

Here are screenshots that the alleged sidekick claims proves her story:

Tessa Thompson in Black and White

There’s something about Tessa Thompson—an alchemy that, at the mere mention of her name, makes people start to swoon.

And rightfully so. For all the heart eyes that surround her name, the woman IRL is proof that all the excitement is well worth it.

While the rest of us have been trying to figure out how many books to prop our laptops on or buying ring lights for our monitors, Thompson effortlessly glows over Zoom. She looks the height of chic in a black top and an enviable slicked-back bun that would make an Eco Style Gel enthusiast weep. She’s lounged with the ease and warmth that we hope to get from an “aspirationally approachable” movie star. All of that combined makes the job of chatting about her latest film, Passing, that much easier.

Adapted from the 1929 novel by Nella Larsen, Passing tells the story of two Black women, Irene Redfield ( Thompson) and Clare Kendry (Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga), who can “pass” as white but choose to live on opposite sides of the color line during the height of the Harlem Renaissance in late 1920s New York. After a chance encounter reunites the former childhood friends one summer afternoon, Irene reluctantly allows Clare into her home, where she ingratiates herself to Irene’s husband Brian (André Holland), her family, and her larger social circle. As their lives become more deeply intertwined, Irene finds her once-steady existence upended by Clare. The film marks the directorial debut of Rebecca Hall, who also adapted the screenplay and was a darling of the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.

Somehow, a novella from ’29 depicting the Harlem Renaissance and debuting in 2021 as a black-and-white film manages to hit the bull’s-eye on intersectionality, Black womanhood, class dynamics, and sexuality. And that confluence was what led Thompson to the adaptation of Larsen’s work.

“When you think of the course of progress in this country, unfortunately, 100 years ago is really not that long ago—particularly, I think, for Black bodies and the things that concern us. Those sort of political vantage points aside, I just had never read something like this that felt like part psychological thriller because of what my character is struggling with… which is what compelled me to do the film,” Thompson says. “I hadn’t seen that dynamic before—a look into women that felt so fraught with so many things like lust, longing, jealousy, confusion, warmness—and it talked about the way that we pass for all sorts of things. For happy inside of marriages, for satisfied motherhood, the way we pass for not being dissatisfied in general with our lives and where we find ourselves. And so those things, I thought, just felt so modern and that they could be anytime, any place.”

Larsen’s work was a meditation on the shaky dynamic between social obligation and personal freedom. The notion of passing for white has long been a ubiquitous part of the Black experience for many Black folks. The film Passing removes the practice from the center of the story and instead tells a larger tale. “For me, the thing that really interests me, which is not to say that I’m not interested in making things strictly about race, but I think that’s a way of limiting our experience. … Even as a Black woman, the things that touched me, that move me, are all of the interpersonal things as well, which cannot be separated, obviously, from the way that I move through space,” Thompson says.

The film takes an almost modern approach, causing the audience, at first glance, to question whether the characters could “pass” by any sense of the definition.

“They look at Ruth and I and thought, ‘Well, those are two Black women, like passing for what?’ And I think that was really intentional for Rebecca. She wanted the audience to come in always knowing and assuming that you’re seeing two Black women, particularly for Ruth, that you’re never suspending your disbelief,” Thompson ruminates.

While colorism is a familiar burden through BIPOC communities, outside of Black circles, “passing” in a new concept. Thompson even laughs while remembering that some people thought “passing” meant the actress had passed away when the posters for the film first came out.

The curtain was pulled back on the “one-drop rule,” a pseudoscientific social construct and legal instrument that asserted that any person with even one ancestor of Black ancestry was considered Black, even 1/32 or some other infinitesimal amount, and therefore subjected to the rules of segregation. When Homer Plessy stepped on that train in 1892, refusing to sit in the car designated for Black people, the idea of measuring Blackness was born. “Separate but equal” was introduced and not challenged until Brown v. Board of Education. TikTok influencers introduced many to “white passing” minorities, or the idea of Blackfishing. As Imani Perry states in Harper’s Bazaar, the rules of racial membership have shifted, and Gen Z is skeptical of the one-drop rule of the past. After the movie premiered on Netflix, Black Twitter exploded with stories of “passing,” with Black folks explaining how the idea impacted their families and the generational repercussions of those choices.

“And that’s the thing. The film came from that place. It came from Rebecca [Hall] wrestling with this legacy of passing in her family [and] trying to understand it. And so I’m really curious to hear those stories from people. That’s been the thing that I felt really excited about in this coming into the world. I think so much in the stories that I want to tell is, What is the utility of this story? Why do we need this story? Do we need this story?” Thompson explains.

Now more than ever, we do need these stories, these stories like Larsen’s that enter canon alongside Imitation of Life (a 1959 film that tells the story of an acclaimed Broadway star, who the audience learns is a white-passing Black woman, who shuns her Black mother to her deathbed) and Brit Bennett’s The Vanishing Half (a novel about twins, where one lives a life as a light-skinned Black woman and the other passes for white, and the repercussions that creates for the generations that follow them). As author Koa Beck says, “Passing can be a window into how progressive we are not.”

In a way, the film is a Rorschach test for the viewer. Do they see two Black women attempting to pass or two women dealing with their sexuality or two spouses testing the limits of their love?

“I really love and feel excited by making a piece of work that, for some people, they will think it’s a film where nothing happens,” Thompson says. “And I think, in that way, the film says more about people’s reaction to the film than it does about the film necessarily, and that I find really exciting. I’m really thrilled to be a part of a piece of work that engages people on all those levels.”

Larsen’s adaptation isn’t the only bookish endeavour Thompson is pursuing. It was recently announced that her production company, Viva Maude, would be adapting The Secret Lives of Church Ladies by Deesha Philyaw and Luster by Raven Leilani. Thompson is using her star power to exalt Black female authors, a move that has been in the making since she cracked open a book by Octavia Butler, one of her favorite sci-fi writers.

“There was no clear pathway for me thinking about these incredible, powerful Black authors and being able to shepherd their work into the world in terms of a visual landscape, but I certainly had the idea. And now, that’s something that Passing really reinvigorated in me. I knew I was gonna start this company before I made that film, and then, the world shut down for a while, and it gave me the real opportunity to lean in and do that,” Thompson says. “I think something that reinvigorated me is this idea of ‘What is canon?’ and changing the aperture around that, of being able to celebrate these stories while these women are alive and very much making work. Because no one wanted to do that, obviously, when Nella Larsen was writing so many years ago, and no one wanted to do that until now, which is shocking to me. And so I think I do feel this real energy [to do it now].”

Thompson clearly feels a joy and privilege behind the camera to give roses to these authors now and to add to the tapestry of Black women portrayed on-screen. But the same care, consideration, and breadth of Black experiences are present in the characters she’s played, including Jackie Cook in Veronica Mars, Detroit in Sorry to Bother You, Bianca in Creed, Charlotte Hale in Westworld, Sylvie Parker in Sylvie’s Love, and Valkyrie in the MCU, to name a few. As Amanda Seales once said, “Every Black person is living the Black experience.” And that’s the connective tissue of Thompson’s characters, Black women who distinctively live their experience.

“I think selfishly when I think about my own body of work, but also, when I think about how to contribute to this industry that I work in, [there] is this idea of, Where have we not been? And how do we get us there?” Thompson says. “Now with Viva Maude and this production company and the folks that I’m working with and reaching across the industry and making relationships, I think… ‘Okay, how do we get us there,’ and the us isn’t just me. It’s a host of people. What lacks is a conversation around diversity of thought, idea, and presentation. And so it’s not enough that I get to be in films. But what kind of films do I get to be in? What kind of stories do I get to tell, and what kind of protagonist do I get to be?”

There’s a joy present on Thompson’s face when she talks about a past discussion with Dear White People director Justin Simien around why there should be more Black people in space. It’s clear that she isn’t just committed to Black folks in outer space, but in all spaces. Whether she’s shopping for her character Detroit or making sure that Valkyrie, a canonically bisexual character, is fully represented on-screen, it’s apparent when Thompson takes a role that she makes sure the audience know she sees us. She sees her characters for their complete and complex selves.

That diversity in thought, commitment to showing up fully, and desire for full representation are apparent in how Thompson shows up in the world off-screen, too, especially on red carpets. Thompson thinks of Black joy and passion being on display through the artistry created by her styling team, led by stylists Wayman and Micah. “We’ve been on this journey together now for some years,” she says of her partnership with the duo. “There is a real intentionality to the choices that we make. Working with young, up-and-coming Black designers, designers of color like that [is] something that really means a lot to me.”

Thompson’s style can’t be defined by a single philosophy. Rather, it’s a vibe. “The artists that I grew up watching and thinking about, they weren’t really actors. They were musicians. They were folks like Bowie, Prince, Eartha Kitt, and Grace Jones. And something that always struck me about those folks is this idea of clothing in a way as armor. And I think sometimes there’s this idea that [it’s] a way to hide,” she says. “But for me, I think it feels like it sets you free in a way. If you can illustrate to people that you are something that is ever evolving and growing and changing, then you give yourself limitless space in which to evolve, grow, and change slowly, particularly someone that’s public.”

Thompson sees herself as a reflection of her team, a walking billboard displaying the brilliance of their work. She embraces the idea of muse and art piece but can attest that she’s still in awe of their genius and style philosophy after all this time. Whether it’s the style Super Bowl (the Met Gala) or a stunning press tour for Passing, it’s all an extension of a broader narrative.

The beauty of Thompson’s sartorial voice is it’s not limited to a single house or style. It’s rooted in what she knows she’ll feel most confident about. “I remember someone saying to me, ‘Don’t dress to look the part. Dress to feel it.’ And then it meant that when they would say sexy I would walk in things that maybe outwardly were not the sexiest, but I felt sexy, and I felt good. I think that’s what’s fun as we [Thompson’s style team] expand each other. … Sometimes in fashion, there’s this idea that there’s so much excitement in wearing certain houses and brands, and of course, there should be, but just because the dress is by an esteemed and amazing fashion brand, it doesn’t mean it’s the dress for you or the one that speaks to you” she says.

Looking at her catalogue of characters, Thompson would exchange some wardrobe pieces with Sylvie’s Love’s Sylvie. And for anyone familiar with the stunning costumes of that film, you can see the period costume artistry present again in Passing. “There’s definitely a part of me that just loves those silhouettes and that ultra-feminine period way of dressing. I grew up as a little girl looking, watching my grandmothers, looking at old vintage photographs of them with hats and gloves. And I would be in their closets. And I think that was my idea as a child of how I would dress when I grew up,” Thompson says.

On the inverse, don’t expect to see Thompson in the metaverse styled like Charlotte from Westworld. “If I’m gonna be in 2050, I just want to be draped in Margiela. I just want to be in one big Tabi,” she says.

When I finished talking to Thompson, I felt energized and ready to lead with the same joy and passion she does, basking in the glow of the fairy dust she manages to pepper on the situation. As I reflect on what fuels that feeling, perhaps the experience of chatting with Tessa Thompson can be summed up to a thought by Toni Morrison. She tells Black stories, wears Black designers, works with a Black style team, and embraces her full intersectional identity because, as Morrison said, just the novelty of Blackness is a compelling story. All the rest about her is just magic sprinkled on top.

Welcome to Sagittarius Season: These 30 Epic Buys Make Up My Birthday Wish List

December 1, 2021

Welcome to Sagittarius season, everyone. Say what you will about astrology, but you can’t tell me that anyone born between November 22 and December 21 isn’t one of the most adventurous, fun-loving, and optimistic people in your friend group. As a Sagittarius sun sign, I may be a bit biased here, but I think we archers have a natural curiosity about life that’s pretty infectious. We can be understandably hard to shop for since we tend to have a zillion interests and hobbies, which is why I’m unveiling my very own birthday wish list.

Of course, Sag season falls during the height of holiday gift shopping, so chances are you could use some inspiration on what to gift the fire signs in your life (or be gifted—no judgment here). The gift ideas ahead involve everything from a few cheap thrills filling my cart at the moment to the luxury items that I’m jotting down because I’m a firm believer in manifestation. Usually, I compile a wish list like this just for the fun of it, but this year I figured I’d publish it for a number of reasons. On the one hand, it’s easy to share with friends and family as gifting inspiration (despite that my hints tend to fall on deaf ears) and on the other hand, it’s a cute way to look at all my current favorites and perhaps select something to treat myself to.

Whether your favorite fire sign is a well-seasoned traveler, a fashion lover, or a health nut, as a fellow Sag and someone who identifies as all of those things, I promise that they’ll flip out over these birthday gifts.

Dream big, right?

Kicking things off with my favorite party-ready pieces because, well, ’tis the season.

As fiery as your favorite fire sign.

Gotta let ’em know.

A splurge for a hair clip, yes, but Emi Jay’s are the only I’ve found that can actually hold my thick hair. Plus, it speaks for itself.

Fuel their perpetual wanderlust and, who knows, maybe even inspire their next trip with any of these chic coffee table books.

Since Sags are known as the life of any party they’re at, this LBD is a no-brainer.

Carrying this bag will be their excuse to bring up that time they studied abroad in Italy.

As the free spirits of the zodiac, they’ll always appreciate a quirky fashion item like these printed jeans.

The perfect go-with-anything hoops made sustainably in Nairobi, Kenya.

We’re all about low-maintenance beauty, so this minimalist set makes the perfect gift.

As an archer who recently celebrated her latest trip around the sun in this very jacket, I can attest it’s birthday-approved.

I fully blame TikTok.

It’s an automatic yes from me.

My fellow editors have fully convinced me I need this jacket in my life.

If Kendall Jenner approves it, then I’m in.

My secret weapon for banishing sugar cravings and annoying bloat.

Fire sign-approved.

Ignite their next hobby: record collecting.

What can I say, Megan Fox and J.Lo are influencing me.

Leset’s pillow bag was basically made for always-on-the-go Sagittarians. As the name suggests, it comes with a removable silk pillow making it ideal for carrying on their next trip.

Your most in-the-know friend will appreciate these function-meets-fashion sneakers.

Cool coats only.

Sagittarians are all about the pursuit of knowledge, so this bibliothèque-scented candle is very on-brand.

Gift your astrology-obsessed friend this handmade necklace with their sun sign, or better yet, snag one for their rising and moon signs, too.

Cardigan goals.

Why gift a Sag just any activewear when you can gift them something that triples as swimwear workout wear, and shapewear and was made from 3D knit?

Perfect for their next flight which, knowing Sags, is never too far in the future.

We do love our fancy supplements.

So comfy I’m wearing them as I type this.

Birthday coming up? Here are some epic outfit ideas to wear on your big day.

Usually around this time of year, it’s not odd for me to suddenly have a calendar full of travel plans, dinners, and small gatherings. How ‘Watcher in the Woods’ Shattered the G-Rated Disney Mold

John Hough’s “The Watcher in the Woods” (1981) made history for being the very first horror film to emerge from the Walt Disney company, during their weird period of brand experimentation and multiple creative mishaps.

It stars former figure skating champion Lynn-Holly Johnson as Jan, who moves with her family into an old home tucked away in England. Once they settle in, Jan and her sister (Kyle Richards) discover that the owner of the residence, Mrs. Aylwood (Bette Davis), had a daughter named Karen who has been missing for 30 years. Not long after that, Jan has visions of Karen, blindfolded and trapped in a living room mirror.

It gets weirder from there.

“The Watcher in the Woods” arrived around the time when Disney was producing middle-of-the-road animated films (ranging from “The Fox and the Hound” to its biggest flop, “The Black Cauldron,” which nearly bankrupted the entire studio) and hit and mostly miss adult fare (like the admirable but too ahead of its time “TRON” and the thrilling but too intense “Dragonslayer”).

Reportedly, the poor box office for “The Black Cauldron” (1985) was so severe, the company’s theme park revenues kept Disney from going under. It seemed the likes of “The Apple Dumpling Gang” (1975) and “Condorman” (1981) weren’t aiding the legacy of a studio that was making interesting choices but had temporarily lost its way.

I love this crazy period at The Mouse House, where big swings like “Return to Oz” and this film demonstrated a let’s-try-anything approach to filmmaking that the now carefully modulated, commercial and IP-driven Disney would never attempt today.

ROUND TWO!

In December we will be exploring CHILDREN’S HORROR! Or at least the movies made for kids that ended up being terrifying…..

For the podcast we will be discussing RETURN TO OZ…..Remember the Wheelers?! pic.twitter.com/HmnTd1Rff4

— Spinsters of Horror (@HorrorSpinsters) November 28, 2021

Former Paramount Pictures head Michael Eisner showed up and rejuvenated the animation unit (“The Little Mermaid” and “Beauty and the Beast” were the game changers) and the live action output (the Touchstone Pictures label allowed for PG or PG-13 hits that didn’t bare the Disney name but sent them the profits).

Prior to Eisner’s company-changing and enhancing efforts, the studio released troubled oddities like “The Watcher in the Woods,” which, as of this writing, is not on Disney + and has a downplayed presence in the company’s film library.

An indication of the film’s unusual standing as a Walt Disney film can be found at the end of the film’s spooky trailer, the following message comes on the screen:

“As proud as we are of ‘The Watcher in the Woods,’ Walt Disney Productions strongly recommends that parents pre-screen the picture for pre-teens. It is not for small children!”

Hough’s film may be intended for older kids and pre-teens, but it has the look and feel of a “Friday the 13th” sequel. Note the many POV shots of an unseen presence in the woods stalking the youngsters. There’s also shriek chords to provide mild jump scares and many scenes set in the sticks – it sure does feel like Jason Voorhees is going to pop up at any moment.

Then there are the actual scary moments, surreal bits where the missing girl briefly materializes in a mirror reflection or pulls Jan into a body of water.

“The Watcher in the Woods” was one of two Disney Horror Films (yes, this deserves to be a sub-genre), as it was followed by “Something Wicked This Way Comes” (1983). That film also earned a PG rating despite giving a generation of ’80s kids years of sleepless nights.

Ironic, that the company that had traumatized youths worldwide with the works ranging from “Bambi” to “Old Yeller” and “Fantasia” was now going out of its way to actually make a fright fest, however mild.

RELATED: Why ‘The Great Mouse Detective’ Saved the Mouse House

Another striking similarity “The Watcher in the Woods” shares with “Something Wicked This Way Comes” is that they both suffered an extended postproduction period, enforced after negative test screenings. Multiple edits and reshoots altered the original visions.

In the case of “The Watcher in the Woods,” the far wilder grand finale, which turned the film into full blown sci-fi, was deleted to make the supernatural coda more pronounced, if gentler.

If you’re revisiting this film for the first time since the 1980s or a seeing it for the first time, I can’t stress enough what a treat it is to see the original, unused ending.

Whether you prefer the discarded ending (as I do- it’s on YouTube and the out-of-print DVD from Anchor Bay) or like the shimmering light effects in the theatrical cut, what’s been there all along is telling: the movie climaxes with a creepy séance and ritual in which a blindfolded character is used to summon a supernatural entity.

This from the company that gave us Herbie the Love Bug.

Of the two too-scary-for-the-Mouse-House curiosity items of this era, “Something Wicked This Way Comes” is far more polished and disturbing, though the severe studio-imposed edits and alterations make for the more artistically compromised of the two.

Also, that film is based on a Ray Bradbury masterpiece (it’s a mixed and mostly disappointing adaptation), whereas Hough’s film is based on a lessar known 1976 novel by Florence Engel Randall.

“The Watcher in the Woods’ was remade as a Lifetime TV movie with Anjelica Huston and Melissa Joan Hart in 2017. Perhaps another remake can allow the ambition and full potential of the story to work on film.

As is, the 1981 version has a jarring edge for a Disney live action film of that era, living up to its curiosity item status as a rare horror film from the company. Seeing the luminous Bette Davis and the varying endings in circulation are enough to revisit it.

A better reason might be to enjoy a time when The Walt Disney Company, with this film and “Something Wicked This Way Comes,” went out of their way to traumatize the same youngsters who emerged from their park bearing mouse ears.

Megan Thee Stallion’s career seems to be spiraling downward. MTO News learned that Megan was forced to cancel a concert in her hometown of Houston, Texas.

According to Meg’s team, she’s cancelling the concert – which was to be held at a 4,000 person indoor stadium – because of the Astroworld tragedy.

But MTO News is hearing differently. According to one entertainment insider that we spoke to, Meg likely shut down the concert after she was unable to sell over half of the tickets.

The insider told MTO News that before the show was cancelled – Ticketmaster showed that Meg had over 2,000 available tickets to this week’s show. Remember, the concert hall held just 4,000 seats and this is Meg’s hometown.

“Out of respect for the lives lost in Houston earlier this month, I have decided to cancel my show at 713 Music Hall on Dec. 3,” Megan said in a statement. “Houston is still healing, and it’s important that our community be given the appropriate time to grieve. My heart goes out to all the families that are suffering during this difficult time.”

Social media is having a field day with Meg’s apparent flop. Look:

I wouldn’t say that Jennifer Aniston and J.Lo have similar personal styles—the latter’s tends to be much more bold and experimental—but here they are wearing identical outfit formulas in the same week in the same city. Who would have thought? They were both photographed in Los Angeles wearing black turtleneck sweaters, flared jeans, and top-handle bags. Are you taking notes yet?

Flared jeans happen to be one of my favorite denim trends right now—one that I’m willing to swap out my beloved skinny jeans for. In my opinion, they’re so much dressier than skinnies and help you look instantly polished. Scroll down to see how both well-dressed women style the same outfit combo and shop similar pieces for yourself.

On Jennifer Lopez: Hermès Birkin bag

On Jennifer Aniston: Oliver Peoples Nisen Glasses ($397); Wolford turtleneck; Nili Lotan Oakland Jeans; Gucci Diana Bag ($3300)

This sweater is oh-so-soft and is the perfect layering piece for winter.

Bodysuits are ideal for wearing with high-rise jeans.

How cute is this scallop-trim mockneck?

These will look great with ankle boots.

In my opinion, dark flared jeans are the dressiest denim option out there.

So ’70s.

These wide-leg jeans are incredibly chic.

My favorite under-$100 pair.

Everyone loves Good American jeans because of how comfortable they are.

These jeans are giving me Y2K vibes in the best way.

This is such a classic bag.

Tory Burch never lets me down.

This looks considerably more expensive than $36.

Next, 29 elevated (yet affordable) tops that’ll make your skinny jeans look so good

The Lineup is a monthly series where we’re giving you an inside peek at the beauty lineups of cool fashion people, editors, makeup artists, hairstylists, and estheticians—all the people we trust the most. Get ready for a behind-the-scenes look at all the can’t-live-without products that make their worlds go round.

When I was a kid, I loved going through all my mom’s beauty products, so I can only imagine what it must have been like growing up with a parent who actually worked in the beauty industry. For Taylor Frankel, the co-founder of beauty brand Nudestix, beauty has always been a family business. “My mom is a beauty veteran, and I started modeling at the age of 16, so I was exposed to the industry and the products it had to offer at a young age,” says the 25-year-old beauty guru. “Even though I loved beauty, I was always of the opinion that less was more. I could not fathom using 10 to 15 products in my routine every day. I wanted simplicity with maximum results.”

Frankel saw the blank space in the industry and decided to turn it into an opportunity. She teamed up with her beauty-vet mom—who has developed products for brands like MAC and Cover FX—and younger sister Ally to launch Nudestix, a makeup collection that’s as easy and fuss-free as it gets. Every item is in “crayon” form and can be used at home or just as easily on the go—aka a dream come true for Millennials and Gen Zers.

While makeup was Frankel’s focus early on, she’s also always had a thing for skincare. She loves a good facial and will never turn down a chemical peel. “I find them the most effective in renewing the skin for a healthier complexion,” she says. (She’s also a big proponent of staying hydrated!) So really it was only a matter of time before the Frankels used their makeup philosophy—simplistic, natural beauty for every skin type—to develop a skincare line, too. They collaborated with a leading dermatologist for some expertise in skin science, innovation, natural efficacy, and education, and they committed to using vegan-powered actives and eco-conscious packaging. And the packaging is good—it’s sleek, fun, and definitely grabs your attention while scrolling on Instagram. It’s just what you’d expect from a Gen-Z entrepreneur.

While I’m older than Frankel, I’m definitely not above turning to Gen Z for some beauty and skincare advice. (I mean, I still have to know which products the cool kids are using.) Luckily for me and you, Frankel is sharing her top beauty picks, from a dewy spray serum to self-tanning drops. Keep scrolling for her 14 must-haves.

“I have a lot of hair, but it’s quite fine. I love my silk scrunchies because they’re super gentle and delicate on the hair to ensure zero breakage or damage.”

“I use Amandine’s dewy serum after my moisturizer and right before my makeup for an added glow. I love it because it gives the shine of an oil, but it’s super lightweight on the skin.”

“I geek out on exfoliation! Exfoliation is a key component of your skincare routine. As sebum and dead skin cells build up, it is so important to renew and slough away dirt and debris to reveal healthier, smoother, and more glowy skin. The Lemon-Aid Detox and Glow Micro Peel is a gentle chemical peel activated by the peeling action of papain enzymes. It removes dead skin cells and deeply cleanses the pores.”

“This is an olive oil–based cleanser that cleanses the skin and emulsifies makeup and debris. I love that it leaves the skin feeling clean, never stripped or dehydrated.”

“Your dream moisturizer! Our Nudeskin moisturizer is the perfect texture and consistency that deeply hydrates while feeling super lightweight on the skin. It is your daily moisturizer, nighttime mask, and can be used as a makeup primer as well. I love to lather this on at night for a hydrating sleeping mask. Your skin will thank you in the morning!”

“A perfect collaboration. I love using this product on damp hair after the shower. It works as an amazing detangler and leave-in conditioner. It’s amazing for my bleached hair and helps to define my curls. Not to mention it smells like a dream.”

“As we get into the winter months, I’m slowly seeing my skin shrivel and dry up! I love this oil because it instantly hydrates and gives my skin a glow as if I spent the day in the sun.”

“Sunscreen is so key! If you’re reading this, this is a PSA that you should be wearing sunscreen every single day. I love this sun ‘serum’ because it’s super light, and my makeup applies beautifully on top without pilling.”

“My favorite oil ever! I typically use this oil on damp or dry hair, exclusively on the ends. It seals my ends for a glossy, salon-like finish.”

“I love this sunscreen for those intense beach days. I typically use this SPF if I’m not wearing any makeup that day.”

“I don’t use tanning drops often, but when I do, I use the Glow Organic drops. I typically mix these in with an oil or serum and apply on my face, neck, and chest. I love these drops because they don’t break me out, and they give me such a natural tan (never orange).”

“When I feel like my skin needs a deep clean, I use this tool with my gentle hydra-gel face cleanser.”

“If you’re constantly losing your tools, you want this! It’s a 5-piece magnetized tool with a rose-quartz roller, derma roller, tweezer, eye-ball roller, and comedone extractor! Perfect for an at-home facial.”

“Obsessed with my DedCool fragrances. They’re all unisex, clean, vegan, and nontoxic. They’re divine.”

Crunchy Black is mad at Soulja Boy for dissing Young Dolph and dissed him in a recent interview.

“He the first one to suck d*ck. Before everybody sucked dick, Souja Boy did it,” he said. “He the first one, nationwide, the first dick sucker. F*ck Soulja Boy. F*ck Soulja Boy. He ain’t talkin’ bout nothin’. Tell him to go make another video game and call it ‘I’m the first one to suck d*ck.’ F*ck Soulja Boy, I don’t wanna talk about Soulja Boy.”

Soulja and Dolph were beefin’ before Dolph was shot and killed in his hometown. Even after Dolph died, Soulja continued his disrespect.

“Let it would have been me. It would have been a whole bunch of, ‘Ha ha ha, Soulja Boy should have kept his mouth shut.. N*ggas would have been laughing like a muthaf*cka. ‘Soulja Boy thought he was tough.’”

Soulja Boy has not responded to Crunchy Black’s interview yet.
